Mulled Wine and Rum Recipe

Steaming Pot of Mulled Wine and Rum Infusion, Garnished With Cloves, Cardamom, Raisins, and Slices of Oranges. Festive Delight.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml (26 oz/ 1 bottle) red wine (ex. Cabernet, merlot, feteasca neagra, malbec, zinfandel, etc.)
  • 750 ml (26 oz/ 1 bottle) rum (dark rum, aged rum)
  • 8 tbsp sugar
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp raisins
  • 1 orange

Directions

  1. In a large pot, put the wine to heat.
  2. When the wine reaches the simmering point temperature add the rum.
  3. Add sugar and blend so the sugar dissolves.
  4. Add 4 cloves, 2 tsp of cardamom powder (you can also use seeds if powder isn’t available), and 2 tbsp of raisins.
  5. Let the mixture simmer on very low heat for a maximum of 10 minutes.
  6. Remove the beverage from the heat and add slices of oranges.
  7. Avoid adding oranges or lemons when simmering the wine with spices. It will add a bitter flavor to your beverage.
  8. Let the wine and rum mixture rest for 20 minutes so all the spices combine into a flavorful drink.
  9. Serve.
