Glühwein Recipe

Warm and Inviting Glühwein Recipe With Red Wine, Schnapps, Spices, and Citrus. Perfect for Festive Gatherings and Winter Warmth.

Ingredients

  • 750 ml (26 oz/ 1 bottle) red wine (ex. Cabernet, merlot, feteasca neagra, malbec, zinfandel, etc. A semi-dry, semi-sweet type of wine-preferably)
  • 200 ml (7 oz) schnapps (any type of schnapps, can be replaced with plain vodka, palinca, tuica, etc.)
  • 250 g (8,8 oz) sugar
  • 100 ml (3,5 oz) water
  • 4-5 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2-3 aniseeds
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 2 tsp grated ginger

Directions

  1. In a large pan, add 100 ml water, 1 peeled and sliced orange, cloves, aniseeds, 2 tsp of ginger, and the sugar.
  2. Boil this mixture for a few minutes.
  3. Reduce the heat to very low and gradually add 200 ml of schnapps while constantly mixing.
  4. Add the wine in the same manner you added the schnapps, gradually while continuously stirring.
  5. Let the mixture simmer on very low heat for a few minutes.
  6. Let the beverage rest with the lid on for 20 minutes before serving.
  7. Serve it with sliced oranges or any desired fruits and or spices. (pineapples, lemons, apples, etc)
